At This Moment.....

if there were a god, there'd be fire THIS time for those far more deserving

This is Dark Cloud on Wednesday, April 16, 2008.
At this moment, there are three god awful grass fires in Colorado, and three people are dead. In what might be a recollection of the prairie fires the native Americans once faced and set to encourage new grass growth, the town of Ordway is burning in high wind and the survivors being sent east, the only direction safety and roads allow, but still in harm’s way. Quite frightening and all our thoughts are with those in Ordway, Carbondale, and Ft. Carson. This doesn’t bode well for the fire season, to say no more. Because I cannot help myself, at the very moment that people may be looking to their god, I choose to call him into question. I do this because the Pope is visiting, and because institutional pedophilia and rape under Warren Jeffs is being investigated, and because a verdict came down in the DC Madam case. Pope Benedict, whose charge under John Paul was to cover up and buy off the numerous and disgusting rapes and pedophilia of the Catholic Church around the world, got a lot of favorable coverage on arrival because he claimed to be deeply ashamed by all the scandal and that he would work to prevent pedophiles getting in the priesthood. He spoke on how terrible it has been for the church and himself. Aw. Bite me, you one time Hitler Youth. The shame is the institutional coverup you yourself participated in. It’s not that there were bad guys as priests; every religion and major organization has them. And, with mandated celibacy and the procedural homoerotica that attends much of that church, there’s little to wonder at inflated numbers in the priesthood. But the fact that Boston’s Cardinal Law was hurried into the Vatican, apparently under your auspices, to prevent his going under oath and answering questions of how the guilty priests were shuttled around to prevent bad publicity rather than turning them over to the secular authorities where they could get help and punishment speaks to the actual fears and base concerns of the Holy See, which has paid off over two billion dollars here in what are, really, public bribes. Let’s recall that the American Catholic Church admits to ten percent of their priests being guilty of crimes related to sexual assault, including pedophilia. Not just. What other organization could admit as much and not be 1.)hit by RICO for covering up crime for financial gain, 2.) be lynched, or 3.) not be struck dead by a just God for presenting themselves as victims of a ‘situation’ rather than criminals for shielding the guilty? Worse yet, the Pope did not count the victims of rape first in the list of those for whom he claimed pain had been endured. The church and himself were the subjects of that appeal. Half a decade ago, Boulder writer Jon Krakauer wrote Under the Banner of Heaven, which pretty well nailed Warren Jeffs and the whole flimsy religious structure of his fundamentalist Mormon church. It was a scam for guys who like to rape really young girls, protected by religious cant and allowed to exist by authority bought off or willing to live and let live. Their communities in Colorado were discussed in the book. They got rid of competitive young men by throwing them out after they inquired about the possibility of socializing with girls their own age, as would be healthy. But men older than fifty, with money and power, had their eyes open for their polygamous household’s expansion. This is what just happened in Texas at a Jeffs inspired compound, where the Rangers moved in to save young children of interesting parentage from more excitement of the genetic kind from adults who should protect them. Jeffs recently got nailed, and if there is a god he’s surely to slide down the chute to what he surely deserves. In the DC Madam case, a small call girl ring that prosecutors couldn’t claim was a big time financial killing just came back with a guilty verdict for the woman who rather cheerfully admitted to running it from a phone atop her washer and drier in California. Her practitioners included members from many walks of life, including the military, not all down on their luck but in some cases because they enjoyed it. Not one of their clients has been cited yet. This includes Congressman Vittner, members of the military and military industrial complex, and the usual suspects. I’m no romantic about prostitution. I suppose there have been women who went through medical and law school by being a call girl. But the vast majority did not enter it with their eyes wide open or, probably, open at all. It was inflicted upon them and in most cases once known as such you cannot be else without an identity makeover. But I think those who hire them are far more guilty if crime it is, and no madam, no street walker, should stand in the dock alone. Shameful. They should be there with the johns, the popes, the pseudo machomen of the LDS or any number of patriarchal cults and churches who find children more compatible to their needs, desires, and ability to impress. They are so much more deserving of cleansing by fire than others this day.
